The newest and said to be the most amazing piece of technology is Siri – the new personal assistant from Apple. This application is for the new iPhone S, and will change the way we do things on our phones, once again. Unlike any other voice recognition, Siri uses natural language processing to perform actions, make recommendations, and answer questions. Over time, the program adapts to the user’s preferences, and operates accordingly. Whether you want Siri to call you a cab, make you a dinner reservation, or just text a friend, Siri is more than willing and able.
Founded in late 2008, Siri is a result of almost 40 years of research. SRI’s Artificial Intelligence Program has combined research teams from the nation’s best and most knowledgeable in the field. Announcing its partnership with the iPhone 4S in October of 2011, Siri has made history. It is linked to your phones, messages, email, contacts, calendar, maps, applications, reminders, weather, stocks, notes, music, clocks, and internet browsers.
Siri uses the following partners to get it’s information:
• Restaurants and Business questions/actions: OpenTable, Yelp, Gayot, CitySearch, BooRah, Yahoo, Localeze
• Event and Concert information/reservations: Eventful, Stubhub, LiveKick
• Movie information/reviews: New York Times, Rotten Tomatoes, MovieTickets
• Factual questioning: Bing Answers, Wolfram Alpha
• Web search: Google, Yahoo, Bing
Siri’s new technology is life changing to us consumers. However, the CEO of Google is a little worried. He conceded that the new Siri could “pose a serious threat” to the internet monopoly. Either way, Siri and Siri alone makes me want to go out and buy the new iPhone! This new technology will change the way we get our information forever, and for the better!
